The ESC 2025 aims to become a celebration for the whole of Swiss society with specific projects and thus reach as many people as possible. This is why ESC 2025 is organising “Feel the Beat”, the ESC disco for people with and without hearing impairments, together with the Swiss Federation of the Deaf and the Swiss Association for the Hearing Impaired Sonos. The ESC Disco on 3 May 2025 in the Voltahalle Basel offers an inclusive experience for people with hearing impairments and their families, friends, partners, etc. With vibrating dance floors, visual effects and sound, music can be experienced with multiple senses.

A disco for multiple senses

To make the music tangible, the SRG Public Value team worked with experts to develop a tactile dance floor. Electromagnetic transducers make individual stage elements vibrate to the beat of the music. This is the first time that the innovative concept of such a stage has been realised in this form in Switzerland.

The music can also be experienced visually at the ESC Disco. The frequencies played can be read off a diagram on two large screens, making it possible to read the beat of the music. High-quality video clips are shown on two further screens to complete the disco experience.

Highlights «Feel the Beat» Disco
  • Dance floor that vibrates to the music
  • Light show, music visualisation and music videos
  • DJ plays hits from four decades of music history
  • Sign language interpreters for bridging different languages (DSGS, LSF)

Demo day on 2 May: Music for multiple senses – raising awareness of deafness

On the day before “Feel the Beat”, the ESC disco for people with or without hearing impairments, there will be a special day for school classes, groups and individuals at the Voltahalle Basel. They can experience the specially designed dance floor, which reproduces the music through vibration, and the visual effects that make the music at the ESC disco “Feel the Beat” tangible for senses other than hearing. In addition, experts and affected persons sensitise people to the topic of deafness. The information is presented in a clear and lively way, with practical experiments and active participation from the audience.

This day will once again contribute to the ESC 2025’s goals of reaching as many people as possible and strengthening the social added value of the event through inclusion and sensitisation.
